Ambulance Attendant

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Ambulance Attendant (HSC/HS 3) at the University Hospital of the West Indies in the Transport Department.

Requirements

Certificate in Allied Health Care – HEART NVQJ

• Training in customer service relations

• Three (3) years’ experience in Auxiliary Health Care practices

Required competencies

Proficient in administering first aid.
Good communication skills (written and oral).
Proficient in the careful handling and moving of objects.
Effective listening skills.
High level of proficiency in customer care.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Transport Manager the individual will:

Provide auxiliary care to patients to facilitate the essential
delivery of medical care by health care professionals at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).
Assist ambulance drivers in transporting sick, injured, or convalescent persons to and from specified locations.
Assist in lifting patients onto wheeled cart or stretcher and into and out of ambulance.
Remove and replace soiled linens from cot.
Replace supplies and disposable items on ambulances.
Provide reports of accidents or emergencies to the appropriate authority.
Restrain patients when necessary.

May be exposed to hazardous materials.
May be exposed to unpleasant odours.
